Cultural heritage guardians since 1990

Based in Florence, Italy, HYDEA S.r.l., has been providing public and private clients with Cultural Heritage expertise since the time of its foundation in 1990. While at the outset the company’s involvement in this sector directly stemmed from the many architectural restoration projects of historic buildings conducted in Italy, it soon evolved into an independent undertaking that culminated in 2003 with the creation of the Cultural Heritage Department.

Today, the Department covers a wide range of activities including conservation of monuments and heritage sites, design work for the restoration of historic buildings and studies for the rehabilitation of urban centres. Complementary areas of expertise include upgrading of museum spaces, exhibit areas and the promotion of cultural tourism. Recently, the department has ventured into the vast field of cultural heritage assets inventorying and cataloguing.

In addition to its involvement in Cultural Heritage projects in Italy, HYDEA has also addressed cultural issues within the framework of development projects overseas. This because culture is an essential dimension of development and plays a significant role in providing new economic opportunities to local communities. In pursuing its mission, HYDEA S.r.l. has conducted heritage-related assignments in virtually all regions of the world.

HYDEA’s Cultural Heritage Department collaborates with major foreign and domestic institutions including UNESCO, ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments & Sites), the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology of the University of Cambridge (UK), the School of Architecture at the University of Ferrara (Italy) and London Metropolitan University, among others.
